TITLE: Technical Writer/Illustrator (full-time staff position)

DESCRIPTION:

TimelyText’s client, a mechanical equipment manufacturer, has asked TimelyText to identify a technical writer and illustrator for their Wilmington location. This is a staff position with our client, writing, illustrating, and researching assembly/disassembly manuals. Manuals are illustration heavy and technical in nature. Ability to work with engineering drawings and CAD software a plus.

Opportunity is on-site at the Wilmington location.

Responsibilities:
• Create and maintain technical documentation to support product line.
• Responsible for creating new supporting documentation for manuals on current production machines.
• Responsible for all illustrations.
• Supply publisher with finished files for publication through electronic file transfer.
• Write product support bulletins.
• Assign and maintain service part information.

Qualifications:
• 5 years of experience minimum.
• Undergraduate degree preferred.

Skills:
• Experience with basic CAD software functions.
• Heavy experience with illustration software.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
• Experience in MS Office, Framemaker, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat software.
• Comfortable working in office as well as around heavy equipment.

COMPENSATION/BENEFITS:

Relocation assistance may or may not be provided, depending on salary. Salary based on experience.

Occupational Summary-
As an Interaction Designer for hesketh.com, you will be responsible for Web site and application designs adhering to a user-centered design approach. hesketh.com interaction designers translate business and user requirements and Web strategies into functional, engaging and usable online experiences using techniques such as wireframing, prototyping and storyboarding. As part of creating an online experience, interaction designers collaborate with strategists, graphic designers and copy writers.

Duties and Responsibilities-

1. Participate in feature ideation and selection. Participate in cross-functional brainstorming sessions to determine Web site features and functionality based on client's objectives and user research findings.

2. Create compelling user experiences. Translate business requirements into functional design concepts, workflows, storyboards, wireframes and prototypes. Understand business needs and weigh various approaches and tradeoffs in search of best-fit solutions.

3. Effectively communicate ideas. Present, clearly explain and defend interaction design deliverables and concepts to clients.

4. Document site functionality. Facilitate transfer of information to clients and development partners via written design documentation (e.g. functional specification documents).

5. Innovate. Consistently push the envelope of what's been done on the Web before.

6. Obsess about the user. Partner with strategist and information architects to define user research parameters and assist in usability testing.

7. Facilitate collaboration. Participate in a highly collaborative relationship and help bridge wouldbe gaps between design and development.

Qualifications

Education-
BA or BS degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Experience-

1 - 2 years experience working in Web site or software information or interface design.

Proven success designing sites and applications using Web 2.0 technologies such as AJAX, Flex and Flash.

Portfolio demonstrating experience in wireframing/prototyping, storyboarding or workflow design.

Familiarity with user centered design (UCD) methodologies (e.g. user research, usability testing, etc).

SKILLS:

Must-haves:
· Strong desire to work as a key contributor to a fun, cross-functional and growing team.
· Passion for solving client and user problems in new and interesting ways.
· Eagerness to learn, share and apply new skills and trends.
· Insatiable thirst for staying on top of Web trends and emerging technology.

· Good written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to analyze, define and complete tasks with minimal direction/supervision.
· Working knowledge of the following software tools: HTML and CSS for protoypting;
Adobe Software (Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, Dreamweaver) for design and
illustration; Visio, OmniGraffle or alternative for interface specifications.

Nice-to-haves:
· Ability to translate words and concepts into compelling graphics or illustrations.
· Experience working within an agile process.
· Zest for social media marketing.
· Visual creativity and expertise in Web visual design.
· Foosball skills.
· Sense of humor.

COMPENSATION/BENEFITS:

Hourly Rate: 55.00 - 80.00

Final hourly rate will depend on the duration and nature of the consulting assignment in addition to the specific responsibilities of the position. All of our professionals are 1099 consultants. If you require a W-2 position with benefits, we are not the right fit.
