Technical Editing & Writing SIG

The STC Carolina Chapter technical editing SIG offers Triangle-area technical communicators an opportunity to meet with others who are interested in technical editing. We meet for lunch once a month to discuss topics of vital interest.

Whether you are a technical editor, a writer who edits, or someone who is simply interested, this group is for you. If you cannot attend the meetings, you are invited to join the techedit listserv or to take advantage of any resources that we have to offer.

Possible topics to consider for future meetings

  • Giving individual presentations on the various parts of speech and when/how to use them effectively. For example, adjectives – all the different and appropriate way to use them.
  • Proactivity, how to foster and use it to your advantage
  • DITA for editors; basic overview of DITA; give a notion of this XML-based authoring from an editor’s perspective; – Ralph might know of a presentation, and Michelle might know of a presentation (no local speaker, but she might be able to learn it and present it)
  • Editor/writer relationships, especially local vs. remote relationships and how to build them; laying down groundrules
  • Labels for grammatical constructs; debating their use within editing environments
  • Emerging patterns of editing processes
